OSE GSO Directory: OSE students who wish to provide contact information and social media details can do so here. View the full directory on the Directory page.
EcoGrads list-serve (ECOGRADS-L@listserv.uga.edu): This email listserv goes to all current OSE graduate students (no professors or staff), and you must be using your UGA email. If emails are not academic or OSE related please use headings like [Social] or [Question] or consider a Slack post (below). There are other listservs for the larger OSE community like the ODUMALL@listserv.uga.edu which includes all faculty, staff, and retired professors or the post-doctoral fellow’s list serve (ecopdocs@listserv.uga.edu). BEWARE OF REPLY ALL 😉
OSE Graduate Student Slack (odumschool.slack.com): This an informal space to discuss school and social things. The slack space includes OSE graduate students, OSE alumni, non-OSE graduate students who are associated with OSE (e.g. a Warnell graduate student advised by an OSE professor). FYI we use the free slack space, so history is not permanent. This means we typically lose messages after 6 months. You can create channels open to everyone, or a private channel for students in a certain class/cohort/e.t.c. OSE slacks that stay active are below. Be sure to subscribe! Contact the webmaster to be added to slack.
- #general : any OSE/Academic questions
- #random : anything social/non-professional/”random”
- #rhelp : Post all your R, programming, or statistic questions
- #heyneighbor : organize neighborly activities like hanging out or coordinating groceries. There’s also #ecodogs for folks with dogs.
- #virtualfreetable : Post items you would typically take to the Odum Free table
- #lunchmunchbunch : Have lunch with other OSE students!
OSE Graduate Student Organization (http://gsa.ecology.uga.edu/) (this website): All OSE grad students are part of our governing body, the Graduate Student Organization. We meet monthly during the school year on the First Friday and discuss formal things like school events, electing students to committees, organizing our annual Graduate Student Symposium, among other items. On our website we provide the GSS programs, announcements and abstracts from graduate student papers, and a variety of resources including anonymous information on mental health.
OSE Graduate Student Database (https://gsd.ecology.uga.edu/): This database is curated by the Graduate Coordinator and Graduate Program Advisor to inform mentors and mentees of student funding type (TA, RA, Fellowship) and dates of coverage. You will need to login with UGA credentials, and if off-campus use the VPN.
OSE Business Office Website (https://businessoffice.ecology.uga.edu/): An internal website for Odum affiliates only that provides “how to’s”, “who to contact for what” and provides other general information from the business and front offices. This is password-protected, so please check the #gso-website slack channel for updated passwords.
OdumNet (https://odumnet.ecology.uga.edu/odumnet.php): This is OSE’s official location for important documents related to school administration, purchasing, policies, and more. You will need to login with UGA credentials, and if off-campus use the VPN.
OSE Collaboration Microsoft Team: In the shift to remote classwork in Spring 2020, OSE created this workspace for the entire school (staff, faculty, post docs, grad students) to host documents, particularly related to COVID-19 operations. Some important graduate student policies have been posted here as well like the Graduate Student Handbook and pay period information. The OSE IT Staff must add you to this.
UGA-wide Platforms
OneUSG Connect (https://oneusgconnect.usg.edu/): This platform allows you to see your salary, compensation history, tax deductions, and W2. We suggest everyone consent to electronic forms. This is also where you can assign or change your direct deposit accounts. Don’t forget you can split your deposit between two accounts to help you budget!
OneSource Financial Management System: (https://financials.onesource.uga.edu/). This is where you can submit expense reports and get travel authorizations. For any travel, submit a travel authorization in advance! FYI, if off-campus use the VPN.
